I couldn’t decide between the Clear w/ Smoke Lens and the Matte Black w/ Red Smoke Lens, so I just bought BOTH of them.
In short, they’re both 5 Star products, but I do prefer the Clear w/ Smoke Lens glasses a little better. The frame material seems thicker and possibly more durable than the Matte Black glasses. I was surprised when I first picked up the Matte Black glasses at just how light they were. It honestly reminded me of “gas station sunglasses” because there was practically nothing to them. I was a little disappointed at first, but the lens quality, clarity, workmanship, and value are all exceptional as is customary for this brand.
I’ve worn them both a lot over the past few weeks mainly going with Clear for driving and social outings, while the Matte Black was for athletics and working out.
The only strike against the Clear frame glasses were that they are a little large when they fold up, so be aware they may not fit in your car’s sunglass holder.
I find I get less glare with the Smoke Lens and they’re easier to clean as well, but that probably has more to do with the mirrored lens than it does with the design of these specific sunglasses.
The styling and fit are great- it’s a classic look with a few modern touches.
All of that said, both models are definitely good enough to be the one and only pair of sunglasses that you own. And if they fall off in the river, you can just switch to the other pair!
